Beats by Dre ending partnership with Monster(article)

Bye Bye Monster

Beats by Dre and Monster Cable Products are parting ways at year’s end, per a new report fromBloomberg Business Week. Although Beats has quickly risen to be the leader in the headphone category, with 53 percent of 2011′s $1 billion market according to NPD Group, the separation comes amid reports that both parties are in disagreement over revenue share and credit for the original idea. “They wanted to do speakers and I said, ‘The new speaker is the headphone,’ ” Monster CEO Noel Leetold Business Week.

Requests for comment from Beats executives were not immediately returned on Friday.

Interscope chairman and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine is also quoted in the report with plans for further expanding Beats’ product suite. The Beats technology has expanded beyond headphones to cars (Chrysler’s 300 S sedan and Dodge’s 2012 Charger), computers (Hewlett-Packard PCs and laptops) and smartphones (HTC, which purchased a $300 million majority stake in Beats last August). “Music has got to succeed on the phone or else the record industry will never thrive,” Iovine says in the report.

The Beats arrived during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where the celebrity headphone category showed more signs of crowding. Rappers 50 Cent and Ludacris dropped by to plug their respective new SMS Audio and Soul by Ludacris headphone lines, while RZA’s Chambers line (a partnership with clothing company We are the Superlative Conspiracy) also had a booth on the CES floor.

Cause of Heavy D’s death revealed!!

RIP Heavy D

TMZ is reporting  that hip hop artist Heavy D (b. Dwight Arrington Myers) died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis … and a long flight back to L.A. from a Michael Jackson memorial concert may have been a contributing factor.

A pulmonary embolism is a blockage of one or more arteries in the lungs — most often caused by blood clots which travel in from other parts of he body. In Heavy’s case, the clot was formed in his legs.

Days before Heavy died, he was on a flight back from Europe, after performing at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Wales.

Officials from the L.A. County Coroner’s Office say Heavy also suffered from heart disease, which could have been a contributing factor in his death.

The Coroner’s Office has classified the death as “natural.”

As TMZ first reported, Heavy died on November 9, 2011. He was 44-years-old.

Deep leg vein thrombosis is often associated with long plane flights, in which a clot can form due to prolonged immobility.

Actor Terrence Howard claims he married a violent racist!

Terrence Howard says his estranged wife hates black people and she would often call him names like, “monkey” and “n**ger”. All this according to new court docs.

Howard is in the middle of nasty divorce — with both sides accusing the other of extreme violence and other hateful conduct.

Howard has filed a new declaration in L.A. County Superior Court — claiming Michelle inexplicably turned from a “loving, gentle” person, into a monster who once threatened to have him killed by some violent Russians.

In the docs, Howard notes Michelle is not black — and claims that when she would get upset, she would scream things like, “[I] never wanted to marry a n**ger in the first place” and “[I] definitely didn’t want to be the step mother of some n**ger kids.” Continue Reading

Gucci Mane is FREE!!!

Finally out

Rapper Gucci Mane was freed from Fulton County jail late Sunday evening and says that he’s not planning on returning to incarceration anytime soon. The rapper was denied his plea for an early release back in October, but walked free in the wee hours of December 12th.

“This is the last time I think I’ll ever be in jail,” Gucci told XXLMag. “I really feel that way. … It was a time for me to sit back and just refocus the whole way I do things, man. … The times away from my fans just made me want to grind, get in the studio, go to my shows and appreciate my job and what I do now.”

Gucci still faces a civil suit filed by the woman he shoved out of a moving vehicle back in January

Rapper @Ludacris launches new educational website for kids!

I wonder if Bill OReilly and Oprah will talk about this!

Ludacris has launched his a new children’s website KarmasWorld.com, which he dedicated to his 10-year-old daughter, Karma Bridges. The cutesy, interactive site features original songs with educational lyrics, along with games and stories for kids and it’s tailored for little learners in grades 1-6, teaching them not only math, science and geography—but also moral lessons as well.

“We wanted the site to be educational, fun and full of music that all kids will enjoy, but we also wanted it to teach kids more than just academics,” Ludacris told AllHipHop.

“The site touches on subjects, like the rewards of hard work and importance of learning manners as well as the idea that doing good deeds for others will bring good into your life – which is the meaning of the word Karma,” Luda explained. “The music and lyrics, games and stories on the site are all original and were created by me, my daughter and my creative team.”

He’s been blowing up his Twitter account with promotions for the website. In fact in the last 15 hours or so, Luda posted 10+ tweets about the website. “As of today, my daughter has become an entrepreneur by the age of 10!” and, “Visit the soft launch of Karmasworld.com today! Educational website for kids w/ music by Karma!” were just a few that he tweeted.
